Samba TV

Samba TV builds AI-driven media intelligence and Automatic Content Recognition software for Smart TVs, enabling cross-screen measurement, advertising and audience insights across 37 countries.

Samba TV develops AI-driven media intelligence software for Smart TVs. Its core technology is Automatic Content Recognition (ACR), which identifies television content in real time and underpins cross-screen measurement, advertising and audience analytics. The company was founded in 2008 by early employees of BitTorrent; its patented ACR technology was launched in 2011, and in 2013 it introduced Sync and Retarget, described as the first cross-screen advertising solution tied to real-time contextual awareness of Smart TV content.

The engineering work spans several fields: machine learning and computer vision applied to content recognition, real-time contextual signal processing, Smart TV software embedded on consumer devices, and data pipelines supporting media measurement, cross-screen advertising and audience intelligence. Applications include cross-screen interactive TV, cross-screen measurement, and data-driven advertising products built on top of continuously recognised viewing data.

Operationally, the company reports 48m addressable TV devices, presence in 37 countries and annual revenue that has surpassed $100m. Customers include Disney and Havas Media. Samba TV operates in the media and entertainment, advertising, and marketing measurement sectors, and positions itself as an independent data company working on television industry infrastructure.
