Boomtrain

Boomtrain built an AI-powered marketing platform using machine learning and recommendation systems to personalize user interactions; acquired by Zeta Global in 2017.

Boomtrain was an artificial intelligence and marketing technology company founded in 2012 and headquartered in San Francisco, California. Its core business was an AI-powered marketing platform designed to help brands drive relevant interactions with users across digital touchpoints, with the aim of increasing engagement, retention and customer lifetime value. The Boomtrain Marketing Platform, launched in March 2014, positioned machine intelligence at the centre of marketing automation rather than as an add-on.

The company's technical work concentrated on machine learning, data science, recommendation systems, predictive analytics and marketing automation. The Boomtrain Machine Learning Engine, designed by data scientists drawn from Amazon, Netflix and LinkedIn, understood content, analysed reader behaviour and applied machine learning to grow subscriber lists, sustain user engagement and automate marketing processes. At scale, the engine generated hundreds of millions of recommendations daily. Notable customers included major media companies such as CBS and Dow Jones, reflecting a focus on media and publishing, marketing and advertising, and digital media.

Boomtrain maintained engineering and data science teams across three locations: its San Francisco headquarters, Silicon Valley, and Bangalore, India, where the office concentrated on advanced research and development in machine learning. In July 2017 the company was acquired by Zeta Global, and its teams were integrated into Zeta's marketing cloud. The former Boomtrain headquarters became Zeta's Silicon Valley Center of Excellence, while the Bangalore site became Zeta's third engineering hub in India.
