Helion

Helion is a fusion power company developing FRC-based fusion energy systems that directly recapture electricity, with its first power plant site, Orion, in development.

Helion is a fusion power company based in Washington, United States, developing fusion energy systems intended to generate zero-carbon electricity. Its stated mission is to build the world's first fusion power plant.

The company's approach centres on Field Reversed Configuration (FRC) plasma. FRC plasma is formed and confined with magnets, two FRCs are accelerated and merged, and the merged plasma is compressed to fusion temperatures. Electricity is then recaptured directly: as the plasma expands and interacts with the magnetic field, the induced current is collected rather than routed through a conventional thermal cycle. This places Helion's work across plasma physics, magnetic confinement and compression, and direct electricity conversion.

Helion has built and tested multiple fusion prototype machines. Its first fusion power plant site, named Orion, is currently in development. The company frames its objective around clean, safe and scalable power generation, with the aim of enabling a future with abundant clean electricity.
