Mainspring Energy
Mainspring Energy builds the Mainspring Linear Generator, a fuel-flexible generator delivering clean, dispatchable onsite power on biogas, hydrogen, natural gas or propane.
Mainspring Energy designs and manufactures the Mainspring Linear Generator, a fuel-flexible power generation technology producing clean, dispatchable onsite power for utilities, data centers, enterprise and industrial customers. The company was founded in 2010 by Stanford engineers and operates as an engineering- and R&D-driven organisation.
The Linear Generator converts linear motion to electricity using a flameless, low-temperature reaction that yields ultra-low emissions. It runs on biogas, hydrogen, natural gas and propane, allowing customers to reduce emissions immediately and move to zero-carbon fuels without replacing equipment. The system achieves 46% generation efficiency and scales from hundreds of kilowatts to hundreds of megawatts.
Technical work at the company spans linear generator engineering, flameless low-temperature combustion and reaction systems, fuel-flexible energy systems, and hydrogen and low-carbon fuel utilisation, within the broader field of clean, distributed power generation. Over 450 megawatts of field operations and late-stage development projects have been deployed.
