Joby Aviation

Joby Aviation builds all-electric eVTOL air taxis and an urban air mobility service, with up to 100 miles of range and a 200 mph top speed.

Joby Aviation, founded in 2009 and headquartered in Santa Cruz, California, is developing an all-electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) air taxi service aimed at urban transportation. The company's aircraft is designed to take off and land vertically and fly quietly with zero operating emissions, with a stated range of up to 100 miles and a top speed of 200 mph. Joby frames the product as a way to shorten gridlocked commutes: an illustrative two-hour ground journey reduced to a 15-minute flight.

The work spans eVTOL aircraft design, battery-electric propulsion, FAA aviation certification, aerospace manufacturing and production scaling, and urban air mobility operations. The company reports more than a decade of designing, testing and refining eVTOL technology, alongside an all-electric air taxi service ecosystem intended for everyday flight.

Joby Aviation employs more than 2,500 people across over 15 locations worldwide. It works with partners including Toyota, Delta Air Lines and Uber. Stated aims include reducing the environmental footprint of aviation through quiet, zero-emission flight and a long-term goal of saving a billion people an hour a day.
