Accelerant

Accelerant runs a data-driven risk exchange linking specialty insurance underwriters with risk capital partners, using AI and machine learning to improve underwriting and pricing across 20+ countries.

Accelerant is a data-driven risk exchange for the specialty insurance market, founded in 2018 by insurance executives Jeff Radke and Christopher Lee-Smith. The company operates the Accelerant Risk Exchange, a purpose-built technology platform that connects specialty insurance underwriters - referred to as Members - with risk capital partners including reinsurers, insurers, and institutional investors. The exchange applies artificial intelligence and machine learning to turn data into actionable insights for underwriting decisions and pricing, with the stated aim of aligning incentives and increasing transparency across a fragmented insurance distribution chain.

The technical work spans machine learning, data analytics, risk modelling, and the optimisation of underwriting and pricing, all delivered through a data exchange platform. Engineering and data teams working on these problems face the constraints of real capital markets: pricing accuracy, portfolio risk, and the quality of decisions made by hundreds of independent underwriters. The company describes its approach as technology-first and data-driven, positioning data infrastructure at the centre of how risk is placed and capital is allocated.

In scale, the exchange serves over 290 Members across more than 20 countries and 250 specialty products. Accelerant completed an IPO on the New York Stock Exchange in July 2025 under the ticker ARX, and now operates as a public company. Its work sits at the intersection of specialty insurance, reinsurance, insurance distribution, and institutional risk capital.
