Magpie Literacy
Magpie Literacy is a nonprofit building research-based digital literacy tools, including interactive games and videos, to help K–8 students develop foundational reading skills.
Magpie Literacy is a fiscally sponsored nonprofit of Cambiar Education, focused on developing research-based digital literacy tools. The organisation addresses a significant educational challenge: only one-third of American students currently read at grade level. Its work combines research-backed instruction with joyful game design to build foundational reading skills.
The company's K–2 literacy tool is already deployed in classrooms nationwide, supporting young readers year-round. The platform targets phonemic awareness, decoding and encoding, word chaining, letter formation, print concepts, high-frequency words, and meaningful reading practice through instructional videos and interactive games. A tool for grades 3–8 is currently in development, co-designed with educators and students to meet the needs of upper elementary and middle school learners.
Technical work at Magpie spans digital literacy tools, game design, and research-based instruction. The organisation emphasises co-designing solutions with communities and maintains a student-centred approach to product development.
