Primer

Primer runs a network of K-8 microschools and builds PrimerOS, an operating system that automates school administration so teachers can focus on instruction.

Primer, founded in 2019, builds technology for a network of K–8 microschools. Its technical work spans education technology, school operating systems and administrative automation. The company's principal product, PrimerOS, is an operating system for Primer microschools that automates administrative costs so that teachers can concentrate on instruction, with an emphasis on pupils mastering reading, writing and mathematics.

The software supports a teacher-led model in which educators launch and operate their own schools, delivering a mastery-focused education to families. The company describes its approach as blending human connection with modern technology, drawing on the spirit of early American primers while using state scholarships and funding to keep tuition accessible.

Primer operates microschool campuses across Florida, Alabama, Arizona and Texas. It won the $1m Yass Prize in 2024 for innovative, personalised, student-centred education. Its stated mission is to make world-class education accessible regardless of zip code.
