Interplay is a New York-based startup ecosystem and multi-strategy firm founded in 2012. It backs founders across the technology sector, with particular focus on application-layer AI, marketplace businesses and software companies. Its venture arm invests at the early stage across North America, typically writing cheques of $500K to $2M. The firm's wider portfolio spans software, artificial intelligence, marketplaces, education technology, direct-to-consumer and e-commerce, and HR and benefits technology.
The firm operates through five distinct business lines: an early-stage venture capital arm; an accelerator for Pre-Seed and Seed companies, which offers a six-month hands-on programme in exchange for a $50K investment and 6% equity; a company studio that builds businesses from scratch around internally generated ideas; an operational platform providing accounting, marketing, legal support and professional development to portfolio companies; and Ascend, a multi-family office offering portfolio management and advisory services. Together these businesses cover companies from concept through to scale.
Interplay reports a portfolio of more than 150 companies. Rather than supplying capital alone, it combines investment with acceleration, company building and shared operational services, giving portfolio companies hands-on support alongside funding.
