Cyvl
Cyvl uses AI, LiDAR and 360° imagery to automate pavement and sidewalk assessments and build digital twins of road networks for U.S. cities and engineers.
Cyvl is an infrastructure intelligence platform that applies AI, computer vision, LiDAR and 360° imagery to the assessment of public roadways and sidewalks. Founded in 2020 and headquartered in Somerville, Massachusetts, the company replaces manual inspection of pavement and sidewalk condition with automated analysis, and turns captured road data into 3D digital twins that municipalities and civil engineers use for asset mapping, repair prioritisation and ADA compliance work. Its core technical work spans machine learning, geospatial asset mapping and computer vision applied to large-scale imagery and point-cloud data.
The company reports that its automated assessments run 12 times faster than traditional manual methods, and that it has mapped roadways in 49 U.S. states for more than 200 municipalities. Roughly one in 30 Americans is said to drive on roads it has managed, and the company attributes more than $10 billion in optimised taxpayer spending to its work. Alongside condition assessment, the platform maps assets such as signs and bike lanes and is used by public-sector clients to identify repair needs and to support federal funding applications.
Cyvl has raised more than $25 million in venture funding. It describes its mission as accelerating the future of civilization through infrastructure innovation, with a stated focus on public-sector value - in its phrasing, to fix what is broken and future-proof what is next.
