Cognition is an applied AI laboratory working on reasoning and autonomous software engineering. Its flagship product, Devin, is described as the first fully autonomous AI software engineer: a system built to reason about real-world tasks and to change how software is written. The company's technical work spans reasoning, planning and problem-solving systems, AI agents and competitive programming, with applications across software engineering and AI/ML research.

The firm is organised as a small, talent-dense team of competitive programmers and builders. Founding team members hold ten IOI gold medals between them and have previously worked at Scale AI, Palantir, Cursor, Waymo, Tesla, Lunchclub, Modal, Google DeepMind and Nuro.
