Bedrock Ocean Exploration

Bedrock Ocean Exploration builds proprietary AUVs and a cloud-native data platform to explore, map and classify the ocean floor, publishing a free public ocean map.

Bedrock Ocean Exploration is a vertically-integrated ocean exploration company that develops proprietary robotics and software to explore, map, and classify the entirety of Earth's ocean floor. Its engineering work spans autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs), marine surveying and mapping, sensor systems, edge computing and cloud infrastructure - a stack built to handle the full pipeline from seabed acquisition to classified map output.

The company's custom-designed AUVs carry multibeam echosounders, side-scan sonar, magnetometers and sub-bottom profilers, with onboard edge computing supporting real-time QA/QC during survey operations. The vehicles achieve 1–2 metre accuracy and run for up to 12 hours on lithium-ion batteries. Data from the fleet feeds a cloud-native platform for mapping, monitoring and understanding the seafloor, delivering seabed intelligence to customers in energy development, critical infrastructure monitoring, security and defense, and scientific research.

Bedrock Ocean Exploration was founded as a Public Benefit Corporation and publishes a free map of Earth's oceans, reported to be 50 times more detailed than the current best public map available. The company supports the global Seabed 2030 initiative to map the world's ocean floor by 2030, and frames its mission around democratizing access to ocean data while reducing costs, increasing safety and minimising environmental impact.
