Aptos

Aptos Labs builds the Aptos Layer 1 blockchain and related products, including the Move language, Move Prover, BlockSTM parallel execution, Narwhal/Bullshark consensus, and wallet and developer tools.

Aptos Labs is a Web3 studio founded in 2021 that builds the Aptos Layer 1 blockchain together with supporting products and infrastructure. The company's engineering work spans several research-heavy areas: the Move programming language and its formal verification tooling (Move Prover); BlockSTM, a parallel execution engine; and Narwhal and Bullshark, the consensus mechanisms underpinning the network. Its stated aim is to make decentralisation safe and scalable enough to reach billions of users.

The product portfolio extends beyond the protocol itself. It includes Petra Wallet, Aptos Connect (which bridges Web2 and Web3 user experiences), Geomi, Aptos Names (a naming service), and Aptos Explorer, a block explorer for the Aptos network. These sit within the verticals of blockchain, decentralised finance, developer tooling and financial services.

Aptos Labs employs between 51 and 200 people and is headquartered in Palo Alto, California. The founding team includes the original creators and maintainers of the Diem blockchain at Meta. The company describes a culture built around engineers, researchers, strategists and designers, with an emphasis on research and development and on redefining user experience. Investors include Andreessen Horowitz, Apollo, Dragonfly, Franklin Templeton and PayPal Ventures.
