Ambiq Micro, Inc.
Ambiq Micro, founded in 2010, designs ultra-low-power microcontrollers and SoCs, using its SPOT platform to run AI workloads on battery power in wearables and IoT devices.
Ambiq Micro, Inc. designs and manufactures extremely low-power semiconductors - microcontrollers and System-on-Chip (SoC) devices - that allow AI workloads to run on battery power in intelligent devices. Founded in 2010, the company began as a University of Michigan startup built on the premise that energy efficiency is the governing constraint in electronics, and that rethinking power consumption would unlock a new generation of connected products.
Its central technical contribution is the SPOT (Subthreshold Power Optimized Technology) platform, which underpins microcontrollers operating at 10X lower power than competing parts. On top of this foundation Ambiq offers SoC solutions capable of running sophisticated AI workloads on battery power, serving embedded AI processing at the edge. The company's first product line was Real Time Clock (RTC) devices, a category it reworked before extending into microcontrollers and SoCs. Its technical domains span ultra-low-power semiconductor design, subthreshold power optimisation, embedded AI processing and battery-powered edge AI.
The technology is deployed at scale: more than 280 million devices have shipped worldwide, and Ambiq powers 9 of the top 10 global fitness bands and smartwatches. Its products reach wearables, IoT and connected devices, and consumer electronics. The company has been named IoT Semiconductor Company of the Year three times. Ambiq describes its mission as 'putting intelligence everywhere'.
