Alzheimer's Association, Georgia Chapter

Voluntary health nonprofit funding dementia research and delivering care, support and education services for people affected by Alzheimer's and other dementias.

The Alzheimer's Association is a voluntary health organisation dedicated to Alzheimer's care, support and research, working at global, national and local levels on behalf of those affected by Alzheimer's disease and other dementias. Founded in 1980, the organisation operates through local chapters, including the Georgia Chapter, alongside a national and international research and programme infrastructure.

Its technical and programmatic work spans several domains: Alzheimer's and dementia research, biomedical research funding, risk reduction and early detection, and the delivery of care and support services. The Association is the world's largest nonprofit funder of Alzheimer's research, with more than $490 million currently invested in over 1,200 active research projects across 59 countries on six continents.

Services are delivered directly to affected individuals and families. The 24/7 Helpline (800.272.3900) offers free, confidential support, crisis assistance and local resources in more than 200 languages. Care consultations, support groups and education programmes were delivered more than 10 million times in 2024. The annual Alzheimer's Disease Facts and Figures report documents the disease's impact on individuals, families and the healthcare system.

The organisation describes its mission as ending Alzheimer's and all other dementia, with emphasis on accelerating global research, risk reduction and early detection, maximising the quality of care and support, and advocacy for legislative change. Services are provided free of charge and are designed for broad accessibility.
