WorkOS, founded in 2019, is an API platform that provides the enterprise features software companies typically need in order to sell to large organisations. Rather than building these capabilities in-house, developers integrate WorkOS for User Management, Single Sign-On, Directory Sync (SCIM), Audit Logging and Role-Based Access Control. The company reports that its tooling can shorten the path to the enterprise market by roughly nine months compared with building the same infrastructure internally.

The platform covers the main protocols and standards of identity and access management: Single Sign-On supports any SAML or OIDC identity provider through a single integration, while Directory Sync uses SCIM for enterprise identity provisioning. Audit Logging addresses compliance and security requirements, and the Role-Based Access Control product supplies authorization infrastructure for products operating at scale. Collectively, these services span authentication, identity, authorization and access control.

WorkOS is aimed squarely at developers, offering RESTful APIs, JSON responses and normalized objects, with SDKs for Node.js, Ruby, Python, .NET, Go, PHP and Java among others. Customers include OpenAI, Cursor, Perplexity, Vercel and Plaid. The company raised $100M in a Series C round and has been valued at $2B. It operates in the enterprise software, developer tools and identity and access management sectors.
