Speechify is a text-to-speech platform that applies AI voice technology to written content, converting PDFs, books, documents, articles and websites into audio. Founded in 2017 by Cliff Weitzman, a dyslexia advocate, the company works across speech synthesis, AI voice generation, voice cloning, dubbing and dictation, and positions accessibility technology as the core of its remit. Its user base spans more than 55 million people worldwide.
The product suite is delivered across platforms: iOS and Android applications, a macOS desktop application, a web platform, and browser extensions for Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge. The Chrome extension was named Chrome Extension of the Year by Google. Speechify's AI voice generation produces natural-sounding speech in more than 60 languages, while its voice cloning and dubbing features extend the same underlying voice technology to new formats. A voice typing tool allows users to dictate rather than type, which the company says can make writing up to five times faster.
The technology is aimed at accessibility, education, productivity and media and entertainment, including assistive use for dyslexia and other reading challenges. Recognition for this work includes the 2025 Apple Design Award for inclusivity. Speechify has also partnered with public figures among them Snoop Dogg, MrBeast and Gwyneth Paltrow to promote accessibility, and states inclusivity and accessibility as core values. The company operates worldwide.
