Sown To Grow

Sown To Grow is a K-12 education technology company founded in 2015 that applies natural language processing and machine learning to student well-being data. Its platform collects weekly emoji-based emotional check-ins and written reflections from students across grades K-12, then uses NLP/ML models to identify those who may need additional support. The company was designed by former educators; CEO Rupa Gupta co-founded it after working as a middle school administrator.

The product combines student-facing check-ins with teacher coaching and personalised responses, and with real-time dashboards and reporting for school leaders and district administrators. Alerts generated from concerning reflections are manually reviewed by trained professionals before educators are notified. The approach is aligned with MTSS and PBIS frameworks, and research-validated outcomes include significant gains in student sense of belonging, self-management, self-awareness and social awareness.

Sown To Grow is deployed in schools and districts across 40 states in the United States. Its work sits at the intersection of machine learning, student well-being analytics and data-driven early intervention. Industry recognition includes the District Administration Top EdTech Products Award and recognition at the FETC conference.
