Sentient Foundation

Sentient Foundation is a non-profit steward building infrastructure, community and governance to keep AGI open-source and aligned, with research frameworks including ROMA and Open Deep Search.

Sentient Foundation is a non-profit organisation acting as a neutral steward in the development of artificial general intelligence. Its stated purpose is to build the infrastructure, community and governance frameworks intended to keep AGI open-source, decentralised and aligned with human values. The foundation operates alongside Sentient Labs and frames its work around the premise that AGI should serve all of humanity rather than corporate shareholders.

The foundation's technical concerns span AGI research, AI alignment and safety, reasoning, multi-agent coordination, decentralized governance and open deep search. Applied research conducted under the Sentient Labs banner has produced two named frameworks: ROMA, aimed at reasoning and multi-agent coordination, and Open Deep Search, both developed as part of an open research effort.

Governance and community form the other half of the mandate. The foundation champions decentralized, open-source development and alignment and safety standards, drawing explicitly on the examples of Linux, Apache and Android. It emphasises global research collaboration and inclusive governance, and distributes grants to developers worldwide. Its presence is described as global, across the verticals of artificial intelligence research, open-source software, AI safety and alignment, and technology governance.
