Build AI

Build AI is a San Francisco public benefit corporation building the data foundation for Physical AI, covering wearable hardware, field data collection, annotation and model training.

Build AI is a San Francisco-based research lab and public benefit corporation that supplies data for Physical AI. It operates as a vertically integrated data business, controlling the chain from hardware design and manufacturing through logistics, field data collection, annotation, infrastructure and model training. The company has offices in San Francisco and Shenzhen, and employs fewer than 30 people.

Its main product, the Egocentric series, records real-world physical labour in industrial settings as monocular video at 1920×1080 and 30 frames per second, captured from wearable hardware worn by workers. Alongside this, Build AI releases an open training set intended for researchers, and partners with laboratories working on video, world-model, embodied-AI and robotics problems. The company also offers customer-facing APIs and states service-level guarantees covering 3D-pose accuracy, diversity and data quality.

Build AI has raised more than $30 million and has set a data-collection target of 100m hours. Technical work spans video data pipelines, world models, embodied AI, robotics, model training and hardware design. The firm is a public benefit corporation with a stated mission to address physical labour and expand human potential; it was founded by Patrick Rim, Eddy Xu, Jonathan Jia and Zikang Jiang.
