Activeloop
Activeloop builds Deep Lake, an open-source multimodal database for AI that indexes, searches and reasons over large datasets and streams them to GPU training pipelines.
Activeloop, a Y Combinator 2018 alum founded in 2018, builds Deep Lake, a database for AI designed for multimodal datasets at scale. Deep Lake indexes, searches, organises and reasons over collections of documents, images, video, LiDAR and telemetry using natural language queries and LLM-powered workflows, including vector and semantic search and Retrieval Augmented Generation. A Postgres-compatible layer unifies multimodal streams and makes them directly streamable to GPU training pipelines, targeting workloads in computer vision, video processing and high-dimensional time-series storage.
Deep Lake is open source at github.com/activeloopai/deeplake and has recorded roughly 9,000 GitHub stars, 5m downloads and a Slack community of more than 3,200 members. Reported deployments include Fortune 500 organisations such as Bayer Radiology, along with academic and research users at Yale, Mila Quebec and Oxford. Customer results cited by the company include a 18% improvement in retrieval accuracy for a Flagship Pioneering RAG deployment and an 18.5% productivity gain for lawyers at Hercules.ai and Ropers Majeski. The company has raised just shy of $20m in total, including an $11m Series A, and works with Intel through the Intel Disruptor Program and with AWS via the AWS Partner Network and AWS Marketplace.
Technical work spans multimodal database systems, LLM-powered retrieval and reasoning, vector search, RAG, data infrastructure for GPU training and open-source developer tooling. Industry deployments run across MedTech and radiology, biotech, legal technology, research and enterprise AI. Activeloop operates hubs in California and Yerevan, Armenia, with global enterprise deployments, and describes a fast-moving, onsite team culture built around speed, shipping and ownership. It publishes salary ranges on every role, conducts annual compensation reviews, and offers healthcare, a 401(k) plan and equity for all team members; hiring uses structured interviews with objective criteria, and the company is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
